Gov. Mikie Sherrill is bringing in the state police to take over public safety efforts at Delaney Hall amid ongoing clashes between Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents and protesters.

The state police said they will establish designated areas for protesters in an effort to reduce potential confrontations.

Authorities have set up checkpoints and perimeters along the road leading up to the Newark facility while they organize the area for protesters.

The state police said that ICE has agreed to remove its agents from those immediate areas where the protesters will be once they are set up.

In addition to reducing the potential for violence, the state police said the designated areas will also keep protesters out of the busy roadways.

The governor added that pro-ICE protesters are planning a demonstration at Delaney Hall on Saturday morning. She said the designated protest zones will keep the two groups separated.
