Authorities say an additional charge has been filed against the man accused in the deadly shooting of a Yorktown teen near her Chicago college campus.

Jose Medina was allegedly found with a weapon while in custody in Chicago.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office says correctional officers recovered a six-inch sharpened piece of metal with a handle made from medical tape.

Prosecutors have now charged the Venezuelan migrant with possession of contraband while in jail.

He has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges in the March 19 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, a freshman at Loyola University.

His next court date is expected to take place on Monday.
