Losing our edge? Study reports New Yorkers not even ranked in Top 30 for road rage

For all their honking and hollering, New Yorkers don't exhibit as much road rage as their reputation suggests.

A new study ranks New York a measly 32nd in the nation for road rage, according to ConsumerAffairs. Try telling that to the guy laying on his horn the exact millisecond the light turns green.

New Jersey coasted into the fifth spot when it comes to aggressive driving, and even Connecticut made it into the Top 15, landing in the 13th spot.

There have been several recent road rage incidents on Long Island, including attacks on vehicles in Bayville, a passenger who stabbed a 71-year-old in the neck after a dispute and a Hampton Bays man getting arrested for throwing an oil-based fluid onto another driver's vehicle after an argument on Route 24.

Arkansas was ranked No. 1, leading the nation in deadly accidents and accident-related deaths tied to aggressive or careless driving. The aggression mentioned is involved in nearly half of all fatal crashed and traffic fatalities in the state.

The state with the least amount of road rage was Maine, followed by California.

Research from the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety shows 96% of drivers nationwide say they’ve experienced road rage in the past year, and as it turns out, the behavior is contagious. Drivers exposed to aggressive behavior are more likely to act aggressively themselves.

ConsumerAffairs analysts looked at several factors, including incidents involving gun violence, fatal crashes tied to aggressive driving and speeding violations to determine which states see the worst road rage.
