New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Gov. Kathy Hochul say the first 2,000 free seats this fall will be available for school districts 6, 10, 18, 23 and 27, now through June 26.

This includes neighborhoods like Canarsie, Brownsville, Ocean Hill, and Remsen Village in Brooklyn, to name a few.

Mamdani says the goal is to help parents financially with rising costs and childcare expenses. The mayor has previously said many of these programs will run from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. 260 days out of the year, but that other programs through childcare centers will also be available.

Parents like Christie Crowley say it's not just helpful for working parents but benefits the kids, too.

“It just sets up like early literacy skills, early math skills, counting. And I also think, it provides them with a safe place throughout the day that their parents can feel comfortable, bringing them to," said Crowley.

Applications can be submitted through MySchools or by calling 718-935-2009 or by visiting one of the City’s Family Welcome Centers.

City Officials say offers will go out in the fall.
