Tonight is Game 1 of the NBA Finals as the New York Knicks take on the San Antonio Spurs.
It is the first time the Knicks will make an appearance in the Finals in 27 years.
As Knicks fans have been celebrating every moment of this NBA playoff season run, local businesses are also given a huge boost.
Franklin Park, in Crown Heights, is one of many Brooklyn bars that have surely benefited from this historic run the Knicks are on in this postseason. For them, it’s been a busy few months to say the least.
"This place stays kind of busy,” said a bartender. “It's just a staple in the neighborhood of Crown Heights, but it's definitely hard to find a seat on game night. It’s still fun, I get to watch, give those high fives while making some money.”
Mayor Zohran Mamdani, along with the New York City Economic Development Corporation, announced that the New York Knicks' 2026 NBA postseason run has generated an estimated $202 million in economic activity from home games played so far.
As the Knicks return tonight to the NBA finals, there is potential to generate an additional $263 million, bringing a total of $465 million in economic activity to the city - supporting local businesses and creating jobs and economic opportunity across the five boroughs.
