The NYPD says that in the first five months of this year, murders were at the lowest level recorded for any year's first five months.
It comes after News 12 previously reported six people who died from a shooting or stabbing in Brooklyn in the last week of May.
News 12 previously reported about a 41-year-old man shot and killed at a laundromat in Flatlands, a 38-year-old man fatally stabbed in Cypress Hills, a man stabbed to death in Sunset Park, a man stabbed to death in Canarsie and two women stabbed to death over the weekend inside a Park Slope apartment building.
The majority of these incidents were stabbings, and the NYPD says Brooklyn led the city with a 47.6% reduction in shooting incidents.
Andy Young says with crime trending down citywide, people still seem to resort to violence.
“That gives you an indication that police is doing their job if murders and everything is down, but you still have the people outside here who still going to perform ignorant acts," said Young.
