A Gravesend man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a 2020 shooting that killed a man sitting on a stoop in Bushwick.

The Kings County District Attorney’s Office says William Freeman opened fire at Ethan Williams, 20, and his friends in front of an Airbnb they were renting.

Williams was struck in the chest and died of his wounds. Freeman fled the scene and remained at large until 2022.

Authorities say he was taken into custody during a traffic stop after admitting that he shot at the victim’s group because he thought one of them was responsible for his cousin’s death weeks prior.

Freeman pleaded guilty to manslaughter earlier this year. He will be subject to five years’ post-release supervision.
