Blaze consumes historic Bushwick church, spreads to nearby buildings
A blaze consumed the historic Reformed Church of South Bushwick and spread to nearby buildings, the FDNY says.
The fire at 855 Bushwick Ave. escalated to a third alarm around 1:35 p.m. Friday, just 24 minutes after it erupted.
Citizen app footage shows flames engulfing the church's steeple as large clouds of smoke billow into the surrounding area.
In one clip, a person can be heard exclaiming, "Oh man, it's gonna come down, dude."
The FDNY says 192 fire and EMS crews responded. As of 2:40 p.m. Friday, no injuries have been reported.
The Reformed Church of South Bushwick was built in 1853 and is an official NYC landmark.
