Elmo loves everyone, but he only has one favorite soccer team

Elmo has plenty of love for everyone, but when it comes to the World Cup, the beloved Sesame Street character is cheering for Team USA.
Known for his messages of love and kindness, the famously friendly Muppet declined to pick sides during this year’s NBA Finals, saying he hoped both teams had fun. But in soccer, Elmo is hoping to see the United States win the cup.
“Just to be clear, Elmo wants Team USA to win, OK? Elmo loves everybody. Just to be clear, don’t make this a thing. Thank you,” the fuzzy red Sesame Street icon posted on X.
Elmo’s show of team loyalty may have come after a recent exchange with another Sesame Street favorite.
“Me teach Elmo not to eat trophy. Me teach Elmo to pick a team,” Cookie Monster posted on X.
Kindness and friendship may always come first in Elmo’s world, but he is still hoping Team USA takes the top spot in the soccer world.
The U.S. men’s national team is set to play Turkey on Thursday.
