FDNY responded to West 36th St. between Mermaid Avenue
and Surf Avenue just before 6:50 a.m.
Two transformers fell onto parked cars. One of the transformers caught fire engulfing the vehicle.
Another parked car was also crushed by a transformer on the same street.
FDNY crews are still on scene.
The Con Edison outage map shows at least 896 customers without lights. At this time, the restoration time for those customers is expected by 9:30 a.m.
