This includes fresh produce, meat, seafood, as well as pantry staples and refrigerated goods.
The discount applies to all New Yorkers, and prices are locked and predictable rather than fluctuating. This makes it easier for families with fixed incomes to put food on the table.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani also issued a request for proposals from qualified grocers or firms to operate one or more of these municipal grocery stores.
The first store is set to open at Hunt’s Point in the Bronx by the end of 2027.
