MTA holds pop-up information event about new Interborough Express

The MTA often says, “Stand clear of the closing doors,” but now they’re opening the door to feedback on designing the new Interborough Express (IBX).
Transit officials held a pop-up event on Wednesday at the Canarsie-Rockaway Parkway subway station, where riders received information about the project and expressed their opinions.
The MTA said the IBX is a light-rail transit project that would connect nearly 900,000 New Yorkers along a 14-mile route from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn to Jackson Heights, Queens.
“I think it’s a great idea,” said Sadiqq Elcock, an MTA rider. “I think if the MTA can demonstrate the value to the community, I think that would really sell it a lot more.”
The project would use 18 IBX stations to connect 17 subway lines, 50 bus routes and two Long Island Railroad stations.
“If there’s a better route to get to Queens from Brooklyn, I’m all for it,” said Yvette D., of Canarsie.
She said this was the first time she heard about the project.
“I have family in Queens, and it’s a ride just to get there,” said Yvette.
Transit officials are also conducting an environmental review and said the exact construction timeline depends on the design details.
