Residents evacuated after scaffolding become unstable in Marine Park

When DOB arrived, inspectors found that the supported scaffold installed at the side and in the rear of the building had pulled away from the facade. They say this caused metal bars to bend and buckle.

An unstable scaffolding structure prompted residents in a Marine Park building to evacuate Monday evening.

FDNY responded to a call for a section of scaffolding coming off a six-story building at 2265 Gerritsen Ave. just after 7 p.m.

Both the Department of Buildings and the Office of Emergency Management were called to the scene.

When DOB arrived, inspectors found that the supported scaffold installed at the side and in the rear of the building had pulled away from the facade. They say this caused metal bars to bend and buckle.

FDNY worked on temporary stabilizing the scaffolding until the scaffolding company arrived to further secure the structure.

DOB says the scaffolding was fully removed by 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

There is currently a temporary stop work order on the property. A violation was also issued to the contractor for failing to safeguard the work site.
