Teen dead, another hospitalized after Rockaway Beach drowning incident

A 17-year-old boy is dead, and an 18-year-old man is in the hospital after a drowning incident on Rockaway Beach in Queens, according to the NYPD.

Police responded to a 911 call at 7:37 p.m. Sunday for a water rescue at Beach 84th Street and Shore Front Parkway.

NYPD's Emergency Service Unit, Aviation, Harbor and FDNY responded to the scene.

FDNY swimmers and lifeguards pulled the two distressed swimmers back to shore.

They were both rushed to St. John's Hospital, where the 17-year-old was pronounced dead.

The identity of the teen has not yet been released.
