Around 19 kilograms of cocaine were seized in East Williamsburg during an investigation into drug smuggling via UPS delivery services.

The Special Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office says investigators identified two packages containing cocaine being shipped to a Bogart Street address. Both were flagged as suspicious by a K9 at a UPS facility in Queens.

An undercover officer posing as a UPS driver approached Joshua Vargas in front of the location on July 15 and asked if one of the packages belonged to him. He was taken into custody after confirming.

A search of the package revealed eight brick-shaped portions containing 11 kilograms of cocaine.

Vargas is charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and attempted criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Authorities say eight additional kilograms were also recovered from another package sent to the same address. The investigation related to this package is still ongoing.
