Severe storms leave trail of damage across Brooklyn

Residents in one East Flatbush neighborhood are cleaning up after severe weather tore through Brooklyn, leaving downed trees, damaged vehicles, and utility crews working to restore services.
At the intersection of Lenox Road and East 55th Street, the aftermath of Thursday's heavy rain and thunderstorms was hard to miss. Multiple trees were toppled, with some falling onto parked cars and others completely uprooted. Nearby, Con Edison crews worked to repair downed power lines while a traffic signal pole remained dangerously tilted toward the ground.
The damage came after another round of strong storms swept across New York City Thursday, bringing heavy rain, gusty winds, and thunderstorm activity.
While severe weather is not uncommon, residents on this block say the extent of the damage is unlike anything they have experienced before.
"Unbelievable. Been here for 40 years, this is the first time I've seen that," said East Flatbush resident Evens Heurtelou. "I was shocked. The city, we keep telling them keep trimming that tree. It's no good, it's falling down. Nothing has been done."
Cleanup and repair efforts are expected to continue for several hours, though officials have not provided an exact timeline for when the area will be fully cleared.
The scene serves as another reminder of the impact severe weather can have on neighborhoods across the city, as residents and crews work to recover from the latest round of storms.
