Semi-truck erupts in flames beneath Gowanus Expressway

A semi-truck burst into flames beneath the Gowanus Expressway in Bay Ridge on Saturday afternoon, according to the FDNY.
Officials say 79 fire and EMS personnel were called to 6502 6th Ave. just before 3 p.m.
Citizen app footage taken near the chaotic scene shows orange flames shooting from the truck as thick black smoke billows onto the expressway above. The video then shows what was left of the charred truck after the blaze was extinguished.
The FDNY says it took firefighters just over 30 minutes to control the fire.
No one was injured, according to officials.
The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
