Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 59-year-old woman who was found dead inside a Bay Ridge apartment Monday morning.

Police say officers responded to a 911 call around 9:34 a.m. for an unconscious person at an apartment building on 79th Street. When officers arrived, they found the woman unconscious and unresponsive with trauma to her head. EMS responded and pronounced her dead at the scene.

Authorities have not released the woman’s identity. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.

Neighbors tell News 12 they remember the woman as a hardworking home healthcare worker. One neighbor also says she had seen a man around the apartment and remembers seeing the two walking a dog together. Another neighbor says he did not know a woman was living inside the apartment.

Detectives were still going in and out of the building Tuesday as they worked to determine what happened. Police have not said whether anyone is connected to the woman’s death, and the investigation remains ongoing.
