Rutgers police investigate early morning assault in New Brunswick; 1 injured

University police say the victim was struck during an argument with a group of people in a residential parking lot Sunday morning.

A person affiliated with Rutgers University was injured in an early morning assault in New Brunswick on Sunday, according to university police.

Rutgers police said the incident occurred around 2:10 a.m. in the parking lot of a residence at 26 Union St.

Witnesses told police the victim was involved in an argument with a group of people when one person in the group struck the victim.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. The group fled in an unknown direction, police said.

Police said they have only a limited description of the person responsible.
