Drivers faced major delays on the George Washington Bridge Friday morning as backups stretched from New Jersey into the Bronx during the commute.
Crossing times reached 90 minutes after three lanes were closed for construction. The lanes later reopened, and traffic conditions gradually improved through the morning.
Ongoing construction tied to a long-term restoration project on the 95-year-old bridge also contributed to congestion, leaving commuters traveling between New Jersey and New York facing repeated delays throughout the week.

The delays capped a difficult week for drivers using the bridge.
The backups follow two fatal incidents earlier in the week. A deadly road-rage shooting and a fatal motorcycle crash involving a tractor-trailer both forced lane closures while investigators worked at the scenes.
