Thousands of passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Oasis of the Seas got an unexpected change of scenery when their planned trip to the Bahamas turned into a stop in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

The cruise ship departed from New Jersey, but bad weather forced the ship to change course and head north to Canada instead.

Despite the detour, many passengers made the best of the situation.

“The way the dice fell on the table, and I’m very grateful. Halifax is a beautiful city,” one passenger said.

Another passenger said, “Of course, it’s not the 80-degree Bahamas, so, you know, from lemons, you make lemonade.”

The shipspenta couple of days at sea before returning to New Jersey. To make up for the inconvenience, Royal Caribbean offered passengers travel vouchers worth 50% off.
