A 24-year-old man was shot and killed in Coney Island Wednesday morning, according to the NYPD. Police have identified the victim as Truron Roachmartin.

Police responded to a 911 call at 9:23 a.m. about a shooting near West 28th Street and Surf Avenue.

They say Roachmartin was shot in the face and chest. EMS took him to NYU Langone Brooklyn, where he was pronounced dead.

Theresa, a neighbor, says she woke up to the sound of gunfire.

“Only thing I heard is gunshots, but I thought it was fireworks at first because it was the 4th of July. But then I thought it’s too early for this. But when I came down, I saw the tape, cops, detectives, and I thought, ‘Oh my God, something happened,’" said Theresa.

The shooter is described as a Black male wearing a blue mask who fled eastbound on West 28th Street.

No arrests have been made.
