Bronx Councilmember Feliz has allocated $2 million to renovate the park. The councilmember is hoping to improve the quality of life for residents in the district who use the park for relaxation, exercise or gatherings.
According to Feliz, the renovations are still in the very early stages and the city's parks department is currently working on a design. When all is said and done, he says Bronx residents will see some changes that they've wanted for years.
"The community has been asking for capital renovations, including new benches and an overall restructuring of the parkway. That's why I'm very proud to not only make it a priority, but also we made it a reality by bringing $2 million to completely transform that parkway," the councilman says.
Residents tell News 12 that with these new funds, they would like to see updated park benches, more garbage cans, poop bags for dogs, more green spaces and pollinator gardens, among other things.
Feliz presented that check Monday alongside representatives of the Mary Mitchell Center and the parks committee of Community Board 6.
Bronx residents looking to share their ideas for the funds can reach out to Feliz's office.
