Three candidates are vying for the state Senate seat in the 19th District, which covers East New York, Canarsie, Mill Basin and other nearby neighborhoods.
Conservative Party candidate Elias Weir says his main focus is to expand small businesses and improve public education.
He hopes to secure proper funding in the district to "ensure that every student meets the demands for their future."
Republican candidate Jeffrey Ferretti, a third-generation Brooklyn resident, owns a real estate company and says he wants to help his constituents save money.
"Everyone complains about the high taxes, high utility bills...They're not as palatable as they used to be," says Ferretti.
The third candidate for the senate district is current Assemblywoman Roxanne Persaud. She is running on the Democratic, Independence and Women's Equality party lines. She says her focus is on reducing crime.
"I'm the person who wants to ensure that our kids have quality education, quality services in the library, quality police services, quality community services," says Persaud.
Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
