A burning building is not all that firefighters found when they were dispatched to a two-alarm fire early Thursday morning.
The FDNY responded to 108 Van Dyke St. in Red Hook for a two-alarm commercial building fire around 1:30 a.m.
Heavy smoke was coming from the warehouse, and crews had to cut open a metal gate to get access to the fire. Firefighters got the fire under control at 3 a.m. Three firefighters were injured, but the FDNY says their injuries are not life threatening.
Just as firefighters were setting up to put the fire out, a pig emerged through the door, and it was followed by another.
Workers at the warehouse say the space was used to store lighting and other production equipment. While the boxes have a ton of damage, they're hopeful the actual equipment inside was spared.
The pigs are reportedly safe and sound and on their way to Pennsylvania with their owners
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
