A 31-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a car in East Williamsburg.

Police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck just after midnight at Vandervoort Avenue and Maspeth Avenue.

Police say the man was walking on the road when he was struck by a car. He suffered trauma to his head and was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.

The operator of the car did not remain on scene. No arrests have been made.

Residents in the area tell News 12 they aren't surprised as cars often speed here.

“I find when I cross the street, the light could be in my favor, but the cars they’ll go right through," said Mary, an East Williamsburg resident.

Police have not yet released a description of the vehicle that struck the man.
