Kids in Crown Heights participated in a basketball tournament Saturday in hopes of making their neighborhood a safer place to live.
The annual basketball tournament at Brower Park is sponsored by Assemblyman Karim Camara, who represents the area, along with some community groups. Local youths reached out to Camara three years ago to help them start a league as a way to bring the community together to stand up against gun violence. Since then, the event has been a success each year.
Players from all different age groups played throughout the day, with the winning team from each division getting a trophy to bring home.
Participants vow to create a safer environment for themselves and their neighbors.
