Residents in the South Bronx are on high alert after four break-ins happened on East 134th Street.
Clarisa Alayeto was one of the victims. Though she didn’t have any valuables in her car, she is still shaken by the incident and stuck with a broken back-seat window.
She shared surveillance footage which shows a person walking by and ducking between several cars Friday morning. However, she and her neighbors say they still aren’t sure who the culprit is. Police haven't confirmed if the person in the video is a suspect.
The NYPD says no report was filed on the break-in, although Alayeto does claim an incident report was filed.
"Personally, I'm not looking for the police to arrest anyone. What I think is that these people need services. Give people what they need,” she said.
Alayeto says there is some relief as insurance will cover the repairs for her broken window.
The NYPD reports a 38% increase in vehicle thefts across the city over the last year. AAA has listed tips on how to protect yourself from break-ins, including locking doors, not leaving behind valuables and parking in well-lit and busy areas.
