Four people were taken to the hospital Thursday morning after a fire broke out in a second-floor apartment at 1011 Foster Ave. near Coney Island Avenue.

Two of the injured were service members, according to the FDNY. The extent of the injuries were not immediately clear.

The FDNY said fire began around 8 a.m. on the second floor and spread to a deli on the ground floor of the building.

The American Red Cross was on scene assisting tenants who live in the building.

The family that owns the deli told News 12 they purchased the business less than five months.

“It’s terrible,” the owner said. “We just got the store, we spent over $100,000, and everything, as you can see, is ruined.”

A worker inside the deli at the time of the fire said he saw heavy smoke coming from the windows and knocked on doors to alert residents upstairs.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
