Nearly $10K taken from 4 victims of bank check scam in Brooklyn

Police say from June through July, a man approached people while at the bank and asked them to deposit a fake check in exchange for cash.

Police are searching for the man who they say is behind a grand larceny pattern throughout the borough.

So far, the man has scammed four people out of almost $10,000.

Police say from June through July, the man approached people while at the bank and asked them to deposit a fake check into the victim’s account in exchange for cash.

The victims in all four of the instances deposited the check and handed the man the cash before he took off.

Two of the incidents happened at the Chase Bank on Fulton Street near Bond Street.

The most recent scam played out at the TD Bank on Court Street near Union Street.

Another incident happened across the borough at Citibank on Kings Highway.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
