Five New York City public hospitals are recognized by U.S. News and World Report as 2026's best hospitals for maternity care. A total of 817 hospitals across the nation were evaluated with only about half of the hospitals being officially recognized for their maternal care. The evaluations are based on factors including c-section rates, newborn complication rates and birthing-friendly practices. The five hospitals recognized are NYC Health + Hospitals/Elmhurst, Kings County, Lincoln, South Brooklyn Health and Woodhull.
