Power problems are stretching into another day across Brooklyn, leaving thousands without electricity during a stretch of brutal heat.
As of this hour, Con Edison’s outage map shows more than 4,600 customers in the borough are without power—many of them in Crown Heights, Williamsburg, and Bay Ridge.
One of the hardest-hit neighborhoods is Crown Heights, where 1,314 customers are currently in the dark. On Rochester Avenue, several traffic lights are blinking yellow, and entire buildings appear to be without power.
Con Ed crews were spotted in the area this morning working to resolve the issue. The company says there was an electrical problem in central Brooklyn overnight, and to stop it from spreading, they temporarily shut off power to around 900 customers.
In Williamsburg, 2,037 customers are experiencing outages, and in Bay Ridge, more than 500 customers remain without power.
Mayor Eric Adams is urging residents to conserve energy while repairs are underway. He’s asking people to:
  • Turn off appliances when not in use
  • Set air conditioners to no lower than 76 degrees
  • Avoid using high-energy devices until after 10 p.m.
