Years after the September 11th attacks destroyed the old headquarters, the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) has a new home in downtown Brooklyn.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NYC) and OEM officials held a ribbon cutting Tuesday at 165 Cadman Plaza East for the $50 million building. The federal government funded the facility, which is equipped with state-of-the-art 3-D maps and video walls. Officials say the headquarters will seamlessly bring together 130 city, state and federal agencies in the event of a disaster.
The building was built on the site of the old Red Cross headquarters. The facility is environmentally friendly and energy efficient.
