A Williston Park woman was shocked to find seven motorized scooters, known as GoPeds, stolen from her garage. She was even more surprised when the thieves contacted her, offering to sell the stolen goods back.
The initial theft happened Jan. 26. The victim, Gina Marcone, posted her phone number on a Facebook group for GoPed enthusiasts. She started getting text messages from a Google voice account, asking if she’d like to buy her scooters back.
The thieves returned one scooter during the negotiations. The price for the other six has ranged from $3,000 to $6,000.
Nassau police are investigating. So far, no arrests have been made.
