An elderly woman is dead after being struck by a car in East New York on Saturday.
According to police, the 76-year-old was walking in the middle of North Conduit Boulevard, near Belmont Avenue, when she was hit by a white BMW. She was rushed to Brookdale Hospital and pronounced dead.
The driver immediately stopped and reported the accident. Authorities say he told them that he tried to swerve and avoid hitting her.
People living nearby say drivers in the area tend to speed, but a lot of people jaywalk because there aren't enough lights or crosswalks.
The Department of Transportation sent a statement saying, "The DOT will study this location in the context of any other recent crashes along the Conduit and determine any appropriate action to take."
