An 8-year-old boy struck and killed by a vehicle in Crown Heights on Saturday has been identified by police as 8-year-old Mordechai Keller.
According to police, a 69-year-old driver of a Honda Pilot collided with Keller who was crossing the intersection of Albany Avenue and Eastern Parkway. The child was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County where he was pronounced dead.
Police say the driver remained on the scene. No arrests had been made as of Sunday night.
News 12 spoke with people in the area like Yitzchak Abehsera who says traffic safety has long been a concern in the area.
"There's a lot of kids in this community and this is a main street. On shabbat, you know, people are walking, kids are walking around. I would love for the city to implement having a crossing guard on these intersections because every day there's the potential for people to get hit – and it happens a lot. There's a lot of reckless drivers in the area," said Abehsera.
