An 84-year-old man from Williamsburg has died after he and another pedestrian were hit by a van in Borough Park, according to police.
It happened just after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday near 49th Street and 18th Ave. Investigators say Noach Klein, 84, was one of two men crossing the street when they were struck by a 2018 Ford Transit van driven by a 38-year-old man.
Klein was taken to Maimonides Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The other pedestrian, a 54-year-old man, was also hospitalized and is expected to recover.
Video from after the crash shows emergency crews rushing to help. On the ground, a hat and a pair of broken glasses were left behind — a stark reminder of how serious the impact was.
Police say the driver stayed on the scene and is cooperating. No arrests have been made, and the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is still looking into what led up to the crash.
