A Huntington Station barber shop helped kids get ready for the new school year Sunday with free haircuts.

At Brothers Barbershop, the buzz was all about helping children look good and feel good as they start a new school year.

"We're giving haircuts, we're giving braids. Everybody's getting fresh, everybody's getting rebooted," barbershop owner David Burgess said. "These last couple of years, it's been crazy. School is starting to get a little normalcy, so this is a wonderful thing."

Marisa Williams, of Deer Park, brought her 9-year-old son Braylon to get a haircut.

"It helps the kids get ready for school. They're going to feel great walking in their first day with a new cut. I love it. It's beautiful," Williams enthused.

"It's really nice of them to do this," Braylon Williams added.

"Some parents can't afford everything," said Lakia Passmore, of Greenlawn. "Just to give a weight off the parent's shoulders and let the kids come in and get their hair done, it's amazing."

The children also received backpacks and notebooks. The barbershop and a nonprofit group called Leaders of the New School donated all of the school supplies.

"It kind of sets you on a great path," said Amaru Jones, who added that the goal is to pave the way to a successful school year. "Especially if you're a student or a young scholar. It kind of makes you feel good, gives you confidence, makes school a lot easier."
