A new plea deal could mean the alleged three masterminds behind the 9/11 attacks could have the death penalty taken off the table.
According to prosecutors, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and two others are the alleged masterminds behind these attacks.
For the last 23 years, they still have not been tried and now a plea deal is on the table.
Under these agreementsm the defendants would plead guilty without the possibility of the death penalty.
Former members of the FDNY share their anger about this decision.
"They killed 3,000 people. We had no say in this, the families. They didn't' ask if we wanted to plea deal with these people or anything. We want to know what happened, we want them on trial, and we want them to get the death penalty." said Jim Riches, a former FDNY deputy chief.
The deal is currently up in the air, but if the plea is accepted by the government and a judge, the death penalty will be off the table.
