AAA: Thursday expected to be one of 2023’s busiest driving days
According to AAA, between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1, nearly 104 million people across the country were expected to be on the roads, heading toward holiday destinations. That’s nearly a 2% jump from 2022, and the second-highest number in more than 20 years.

The holiday rush isn’t over just yet.
AAA says you can expect some of the year’s worst traffic Thursday, whether it be from people coming in the city for New Year’s celebrations, or leaving from previous holiday parties.
According to AAA, between Dec. 23 and Jan. 1, nearly 104 million people across the country were expected to be on the roads, heading toward holiday destinations. That’s nearly a 2% jump from 2022, and the second-highest number in more than 20 years.
Last Saturday and Thursday were predicted to be the busiest driving days, but the holiday rush continues through New Year’s Day.
With that in mind, the NYPD and other city agencies announced an aggressive plan to keep roads safe by focusing on speeding and drunk driving enforcement.
AAA says the best times to hit the roads over the coming days is before lunch or after 7 p.m.
