New Yorkers who advocate for abortion rights took to the streets on July 4 as part of a demonstration against the United StatesSupreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade.
The demonstration started at Cadman Plaza and went across the Brooklyn Bridge, ending in front of the basilica of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral Church.
The ruling has already gone into effect in 11 states and while it will not affect New York, organizers said they're worried about the steps backward that Americans maytake as a country.
"This is a human rights issue," said one demonstrator. "It's not just about abortion, it's about contraception, it's about same-sexmarriage, the right to privacy."
Organizers of the Brooklyn People's March said that they will be back out on the streets on Wednesday and hope that New Yorkers continue to join them until change is made.
