Local activists are spreading the word for a national program that could help provide healthy meals for hungry children.
Dozens of volunteers turned out for a silent rally with the New York City Coalition Against Hunger. Two members of the band Dispatch also came out to show support.
They say children under 18 can get free nutritious meals -- paid for by the federal government.
Activists say one in four New York City families can't afford to buy healthy meals.
There are sites for the free meals throughout the city. They are open five days a week.
