One Brooklyn community advocate says that while fares have gone up, cleanliness has gone down on MTA buses and subway trains.
Tony Herbert says after a recent ride on the B41, he feared tracking lice and bed bugs in his home.
He claims buses and trains, especially in minority neighborhoods, are only cleaned once a day.
Herbert says he is circulating a petition to call on the MTA to fix these conditions.
A MTA spokesperson says, "New York City transit strives to keep our buses, trains and stations in a clean and sanitary condition with absolutely no regard for what neighborhood they serve. The MTA is barred by law from taking discriminatory actions, and we ensure compliance by performing a detailed statistical analysis of any potential changes to service and fares."
