317ds agoHousing advocates rallied at City Hall on Tuesday to call on city officials to reform the Rental Assistance Program.
The Family Homelessness and Prevention Supplement, also known as FHEPS, provided vouchers to undocumented New Yorkers, and ralliers are demanding that the city extend their FHEPS vouchers, particularly for those seeking asylum.
The $2,200 voucher is meant to help people find permanent housing, but right now utilities are not included in that, according to advocates outside City Hall.
More than 9,000 asylum seekers have come into New York City over the past few months.
Housing advocates are pushing to support a new bill in the City Council that would allow utilities to become included in the FHEPS vouchers.
