The Nevins Street parking lot and another lot on Third Avenue in Boerum Hill will soon be converted into affordable housing in the next few years.
The neighborhood is known for getting more and more expensive by the year, and New York City is now calling for developers to submit their vision for these projects.
The area was a manufacturing district, but zoning changes made it residential, and now the door to affordable housing in the area has opened up.
"Both of these sites were pulled in and a commitment was made to bring them into the discussion as 100% affordable housing,” said one organizer. "We're going to want to make sure that we have a building that serving the broader community not just through housing but through the ground floor."

The proposals for these projects that the city is looking for are due by mid-July and selections will be made next year.
