More affordable housing units are coming to one Brooklyn neighborhood.
The city?s Department of Housing Preservation and Development says apartment buildings will be constructed on the site of a former Fort Greene prison known as ?The Brig.? The new units are part of Mayor Bloomberg?s (R-NY) new housing marketplace plan. The former prison site will have approximately 400 new housing units.
The redevelopment plan will also include commercial space, landscaped open spaces and a community center. Many residents believe the project will benefit the neighborhood. ?The Brig? has served as a Naval prison and a detention center.
