Saturday’s Afrolicious Hair and Beauty Expo in Brooklyn celebrated women and their natural hair.
The convention hoped to not only celebrate but also educate attendees about natural hair care, techniques and hairstyles for women of color.
Vendors, organizers and participants say they hope events like this change the cultural status quo for hair and beauty for good.
"Don't be ashamed of your natural hair, of what you were born with,” says Rhonda Ray, creator of Afrolicious. “We want to show you how to enhance your beauty and let it even stand out more."
Afrolicious organizers say that this event was their first in Brooklyn, but will make sure it is not their last.
