As Halloween weekend approaches, Airbnb says it’s using artificial intelligence to help prevent disruptive parties at its rental properties.
The company says its ban on disruptive parties is in place year-round. Its reservation-screening technology is designed to flag bookings that could pose a higher risk of unauthorized gatherings.
Airbnb says its screening measures helped prevent more than 23,000 people in the U.S. from booking entire homes during Halloween weekend last year.

In Hudson County, New Jersey, the issue comes as Hoboken police say they typically see an increase in noise and disorderly conduct complaints around Halloween.
Last week, multiple people were arrested after a fight broke out at an Airbnb in Hoboken.
Police say complaints involving noise can also carry significant financial penalties. According to a Hoboken police lieutenant, those penalties can reach $2,000 per day if the issue continues.
Airbnb says guests who violate its policies could have their reservations canceled or accounts suspended.
Neighbors who suspect a disruptive party is taking place at a property listed on Airbnb can report the issue through the company’s Neighborhood Support Line.
