DMV officials say text messages are being sent to customers falsely claiming New York State is offering $1,500 rebates as a result of high fuel prices.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is warning customers Friday about a phishing scam aimed at getting personal information from drivers by offering a phony gas rebate.
DMV officials say text messages are being sent to customers falsely claiming New York State is offering $1,500 rebates as a result of high fuel prices. Anyone who clicks the link is brought to a page that looks like the DMV page and asked to put in personal information.
