Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a bill that exempts all diapers for children and adults from local sales tax levies.
Yonkers Assemblyman Nader Sayegh says he introduced the bill after he realized the state exempted tax on diapers in 2006, but municipalities were still levying 4% to 5%.
“Local and national diaper bank organizations and volunteers, they were very concerned that with the inflation and the economic situation that nearly a third of parents, especially of infants, were having a very difficult time with the cost of diapers,” he says.
Hochul also signed another bill introduced by Sayegh that will rid state government of any "he/him" pronoun references for the governor and replace them with "the governor.”
Sayegh says he presented the bill because the state now has its first female governor.
